Greens Update
March 2022
Dear Members,

With the season nearly upon us and our Captains Drive In this Saturday, we are removing the requirement to use mats from Saturday the 26th March.

We are hopeful the weather will be kind to us going forward but please do bear in mind we will react to adverse weather conditions, if the need arises.

Please continue to use mats up to and including Friday the 25th March.

Preferred lies will be in play from Saturday the 26th March on fairways and closely mown areas only, until further notice.

The Winter Programme for the Golf Course has been mostly completed now and we are delighted with the work the Greens Team have accomplished this year.

The team have got through a lot of work this winter and a short summary of the work done is below:

1. The construction of 5 tarmac paths to replace the deteriorating red shale paths.
2. They have re-levelled and relaid the tees on the 9th and 13th. These have been laser levelled, using the latest machinery, in line with best practice.
3. They have repaired the bunkers on the 18th. New Bunker bases of compacted Grit Sand have been installed and the bunker surrounds have been re-turfed.
4. Removed the broken matting from the green side bunkers on the 1st and the 8th. The fairway bunkers on the 11th, 15th and 17th have also had it removed this winter. It is back breaking work but the worst Bunker matting is now gone.
5. Constructed new Short Game Areas to the left and right of the Driveway.

All this has been completed, alongside the normal winter programme, that is vital to keep our course in the best possible condition.

Everything the Team set out to do has been completed and we can all look forward to a great season ahead.

A quick update on the front Short Game Areas, which have received their first cut now, with the fairway and semi rough shaping started. The Areas are not quite ready to be opened yet, but it will not be long until we can enjoy these fantastic new practice facilities.

We are opening the fairway on the left Front Practice Area as you drive in, nearest the Putting Green, from Captains Drive In. Please do not chip onto the Green just yet or use the Bunkers. The turf needs a little more time to settle and we will open them fully as soon as possible.

Chipping has been allowed onto the Putting Green, since the development work on the Front Short Game Areas started. Members are reminded that chipping is only allowed to the bottom three pin positions, which are furthest from the Clubhouse and pitching is not permitted.

We hope that gives members a good idea of the work that has been going on, as we continually try and improve the Golf Course.

All that leaves is for us to wish you all the very best for the upcoming season.

Kind Regards

Greens Committee
