Please note the following adjustments to your time spent here at Wyke Green.
Players should now not arrive more than 30 minutes prior to their tee time (unless a practice range booking has been made) this is to help avoid outside gatherings in larger groups.
2 of the 4 outside tables will once again be closed. This is a sensitive area that can be viewed from the main road and we want to do all we can to avoid any unannounced visits from Covid Marshalls.
When you have finished your round, please make sure that we do not gather to discuss your round by the outside tables with those seated. Again, this is to help us avoid gatherings of more than 6 in any one area.
Bar protocol will remain as previous with members once again reminded to stay in their respective groups and not to be gathered inside or outside in groups of any more than 6.
Any guests who visit Wyke Green MUST leave a contact name, email address and phone number with either the bar or the Pro Shop. Systems are in place to make this very quick and easy.
Please be respectful and understanding of these small adjustments as they are for the benefit of us all.
Breaches of any of these protocols could involve fines from the government both to individuals and the club. Ultimately, we do not want to do anything that could lead to us having to once again close our clubhouse.

Thank you for your co-operation.

Update from Head Greenkeeper, Tony Dyke.

The weather this year has been extremely challenging, going from a very wet winter to a very dry summer.
This has pushed our irrigation system to its limits with most of the water being concentrated on greens, tees and approaches. This leaves us with very little water for our fairways. Now we have over seeded all the fairways and temperatures have dropped slightly we will concentrate more water to the fairways to help with the germination.
Due to more demand for water we are now looking to extend tank capacity and install a new bore hole. More details to follow as information becomes available.
Our search continues for a new green keeping apprentice, if anyone knows someone that would be interested then please contact myself or Tim.
Finally, we like to give a big thank you to Dave Madden who since lockdown and continued to water all the trees on a weekly basis.

Ladies Captain Vs Ladies Secretary Match – 13th
Ladies Secretary won 4 to 2

Captain & Pro Match
On Saturday 12th we played our latest Captain & Pro match and our opponents were Neil Ward & Roy Mitchell. It was a great match and we took the lead after 9th hole sneaking a 2 up lead into the back nine. This must of annoyed our Chairman, Neil and Roy who then won the next 4 holes to go 2 up.
Kevin and I decided to wake up winning the next two holes to go to all square with 3 to play.
On 16 Kevin drove to the back of the green and Roy towards the front and both got up and down for 3 nett 2’s. On to 17 we go, I managed to hit the green and then rolled in my putt for a 2 giving us a 1up lead going down 18, with the match over for the Ryanson but still able to halve it, we battled up the last with Kevin and I getting a 3 and Roy a 4 nett 3 we halved that hole and giving us the 1up win. It we as a great match and well battled. Kevin & I managed to beat the raining Ryanson Holders.
Our next match is against Karan Tiwari and Dinesh Sharma this Saturday 19th.

Foxes V Ealing - Match Report

A glorious Thursday afternoon, with a beautiful presented course awaited a gigantic tussle between two local rivals.

Ealing turned up with their strongest available team, thus the match turned out to be a great contest. As we narrowly lost (3-2) away, they were looking to complete are double against us. Our team battled hard but unfortunately, we lost 3-4, providing my first home defeat of the season.

Thank you to my team for providing a real Wyke Green tussle and as we enter the last three games of the season, let us finish on a high and win them all.

I have messaged earlier to ask all players to re-confirm, you are still ok to in your selected matches. Please can you do this ASAP

Just a note on our course, all the Ealing team complemented on our course and in particular how well the greens and Aprons were presented, so a special thank you to Tony and his team for doing such a fantastic job, well done guys

Thanks to all once again as we round off this very unusual Foxes season.

Chris Wilkins
Foxes Captain 2020

Update from House Manager, Pauline Leach.

As you may all have seen the back of our bar is being refurbished. There are still a few jobs that need finishing and I am sure you will agree it is starting to look much improved.
There will be some mirrors being placed on the back wall, and the electric wires hidden. As time and opportunity permit the front sections of the bar will also be changed.

I am now in charge of running and administering our clubs 100 Club! If any members would like to join, please see me. It is £120 per year or monthly instalments of £10. It gets drawn the first Sunday of every month by the Captain and the prizes are as follows
1st £250, 2nd £100 and 3rd Prize £50. The remaining monies are diverted to club projects that are voted for by members of the 100 club.

There are signs on all the tables and around the clubhouse asking members to adhere by the Rule of Six. Staff will be monitoring this so please do not be offended if asked to not congregate. We are doing all we can to return to normal as soon as possible.

We are also going to be organising Themed nights on a Friday, hopefully the first one will be in October. More details to follow soon.

We will be adding a new drink to our pumps called Ice Breaker it is an unfiltered Pale Ale with a Fruity Hop Aroma. Pop in and give it a try.

Finally, please see below for the closing times of the bar as we head into the quieter Autumn & Winter Months
Monday – 11am – 5pm
Tuesday – 11am – 7pm
Wednesday 11am – 9pm
Thursday – 11am – 7pm
Friday 11am – 10pm
Saturday 11am – 10pm
Sunday 11am – 9pm
Please note that the clubhouse currently closes at 30 minutes after sunset other than on days where the bar remains open later.
Thank you
Pauline Leach
House Manager.

As I am sure many of you will be aware in the coming months the new World Handicapping system will be coming into operation.
This, as the name would suggest, is a revised, worldwide system for the calculation of all handicaps.
There is a raft of information available on the subject and this can be viewed at www.whs.com
Over the coming weeks we will be sending out further information to you all.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

As a club, we are always keen to hear from you all with any suggestions you may have for improvements here at Wyke Green.
With that in mind, and as some of you may know we have an email address set up - suggestions@wykegreengolfclub.co.uk where you can send any thoughts or ideas for making our wonderful club even better.
These will them be passed to the relevant committees for consideration and to report back to you on any actions.

Have a great week ahead everyone! Enjoy your golf.

Kind Regards
Tim Owers
General Manager.
