Fridays Update
Here are the updates for this weekend.

LADY CAPTAINS:
Big, big day on Saturday where the ladies play their second day of the Ladies Captains Prize. They had a great day on Tuesday last and the forecast is good for Saturday as well. Hopefully everybody plays great and enjoys themselves both on and off the golf course. Good luck to all taking part and of course to our Lady Captain as well.
Also, can the Ladies playing tomorrow please note that tomorrows slightly amended starting tee list for Lady Captain Miriam’s Prize is now available on the Forum section of the website and also in the Locker Room.

JOKER:
On Saturday night Joker Draw number 100 will take place. The jackpot has slowly risen to €2,100 and there will be added prizes on the night of bottles of Baileys.

INTERCLUB:
The Ladies have a big match on Saturday when they take on Elm Green in Baltray at 4:15 in the Challenge Cup. This is the regional quarter final of the competition. Unfortunately it clashes with the Lady Captains prize so many of the ladies will be unable to support. Hopefully some of the gents will be able to come out and support.
On Sunday the Duggan Cup team take on Moate at 3pm in the Quarter final as well. The Junior Boys play the Semi Final of the Fred Daly Plate against Royal Tara on at 4pm. Both teams have 3 matches at home and 2 away. We wish all teams the best of luck. Most of the scoring will be available on the ClubNet App.

CATERING:
If people are golfing in the evenings and they want to have a bite to eat when they come in, can they please advise the bar staff so that arrangements can be made to facilitate the golfers. If the caterers don’t think that anybody will be dining then it is very possible that the chef will have left before the golfers have come in. In order to avoid disappointment please let them know and you won’t be disappointed when you come in.

WELL DONE:
Well done to Caoimhe O’Grady who represented Leinster in the Inter Provincial Championships in Mount Wolsey Golf Resort this week. Caoimhe won all of her matches ! Caoimhe has also been selected on the U16 ILGU team who will travel to the English U16 Girls Open at Gerrards Cross Golf Club, Buckinghamshire from 6 – 8 August.

PENALTY AREAS:
These are bodies of water or other areas defined by the committee where a ball is often lost or unable to be played. For one penalty stroke, players may use specific relief options to play a ball from outside the penalty area.
The ball is in the Penalty area if any part of the ball lies on or touches the ground or anything else inside the edge of the penalty area or is above the edge or any other part of the penalty area. If it is in the penalty area, you may, play it as it lies or play a ball from outside the penalty area by taking penalty relief (1 stroke).
For both red and yellow stakes, you can take stroke and distance relief by playing again from where you made the previous stroke or you can go back as far as you want keeping the point where your ball last crossed the Penalty area directly between you and the flag. There is no limit on how far back you go.
For red staked penalty areas there is an additional option available. Under this option you can drop out to the side of the Penalty area where your ball last crossed the Penalty area. You cannot drop closer to the hole though.
Full details are available on all rules on the R&A App which I suggest, where possible, all members download to their phones so that they have them handy on the Course.
