It's a hot one out there today and we have lots of news to update you on.

The Straffan Cup team were in action yesterday against Westmanstown and had a fantastic win. They are now through to the Semi-Final of this competition.
The only team in action this weekend is the Senior Cup team who have their qualifying event in Corrstown on Saturday. Should they finish in the top 4 teams they will progress to the matchplay element which will be held on Sunday.

JOKER:
The Joker Jackpot now stands at €1,900, wouldn’t it be nice to win that ! Entry envelopes are available in the clubhouse and the draw will take place after the social on Friday evening.

GRANARD FOURSOMES RESCHEDULED:
The Granard Foursomes which was previously cancelled on June 4 has now been rescheduled to next FRIDAY July 5. The timesheet is now available to book.

JUNIORS MAKING WAVES:
Our Junior golfers are currently making waves across the country.
Congratulations to Caoimhe O’Grady who has been selected on the Leinster Girls Inter Provincial team. This year’s Inter Pro’s will be held at the Mount Wolsey Golf Resort between July 9 and 11. It would be great if members could come along and support Caoimhe in this prestigious competition. Caoimhe is currently competing in the Connaught Ladies Championship and last week she was unlucky to lose to the eventual winner of the Ladies Irish Close Plate Matchplay on the hole 19.
Sean Doyle, Aidan Fraher and David O’Malley are all competing this week in the Irish Boys Amateur Open in New Forrest. We wish them all the best in their endeavours.

MEN’S PRIZE PRESENTATION:
The next men’s prize presentation will take place tonight. Prizes from previous presentations will also be available on the night. If these aren’t collected they may be taken back by the club. The presentation will take place after the Social golf.

MIDWEEK 9 HOLE EVENING COMPETITIONS:
Members are reminded that there are 9 Hole evening competitions on Mondays (via the Blues and the Bunnies) for the men and on Thursdays (via the Reds) for the ladies. These are Open to members as well as their guests so why not come along for a bit of golf, some chat and a bite to eat and / or a drink afterwards. What a great way to spend the long summer evenings.

C COURSE IMPROVEMENTS:
Work commenced this week on the first phase of work on enhancing the C course. This involved filling in the ditch which runs across the course.
Most of the heavy manual labour was completed on Monday. This involved laying drainage pipes and filling the bottom of the drain with pea gravel and then covering this with a membrane. Tuesday and Wednesday were taken up with filling the remainder of the ditch with soil and levelling the surface with our dumper drivers to the fore.
The volunteers during the week were organised by N Walsh. Thanks to A Fahy, J Creagh, S Fitzpatrick, G Geraghty, R Kelly, J Lynch, J Maguire, K Mooney, G Moorehead, J Mullaney , M Murphy, T Murray, P O’Brien, A O’Connell, C O'Muirí, M O’Reilly, P Reilly, J Sheehy and J Ward. Paul Farrell, our Course Superintendent was on hand to lend his expertise to the proceedings.
Further work will take place next Monday when the surface will be prepared for seeding, repairing damage to fairways and cleaning up access paths. Phase 2 of the project will see the stonework on the fifth extended to meet the edge of the filled in section.
This project is funded from Joker funds. Thanks is due to all contributors to the fund and especially the Joker Committee led by Dave Moore.
All areas disturbed by these works on the C Course are to be treated as Ground Under Repair and we would again advise all members to exercise caution both on the course and in the car park while the works are ongoing.

UPDATE FROM COUNCIL MEETING JUNE 20
The most recent council meeting took place last week and the following were the main items that were discussed:
• The research into the re-branding of the club name has been completed. The results, as well as the proposed new Constitution, will be brought to an EGM shortly
• It was agreed to put a presentation on the new members hub on display in the bar area and to provide a help desk for members.
• As per CONGU rules, extra shot(s) may be allocated to Ladies when playing in mixed team competitions. This is mandatory under CONGU Appendix O, page 88. If applicable conditions are in place, you will be advised of this when signing in.
• The Get Into Golf (GIG) Programme finished on Tuesday, 18th June. Feedback has been very positive so we are hopeful of participants taking out membership as a result of the success of the programme. Please encourage anyone you know who was on the GIG to join.
• We hope to enter a stall/activity into the upcoming Dunshaughlin Harvest Festival at the end of September. If you have any local knowledge on this please let us know as we have formed a small sub-committee from Council to organise same.
• Driving Range: Please follow the rules of the range and don’t hit any club that carried longer than 150 yards.
• Work on the C Course, which is funded by the Joker funds started last Monday. Please take extra care in the carpark, on the course and follow all safety signs. Some competitions may have to move on a temporary basis to the A or B courses over the coming weeks.
• The Club Classic raised €7,900, this provides a very welcome boost to the general funds of the club and will be spent on the upkeep of the clubhouse and environs. Painting of the annexe and proper signage in the clubhouse are two of the first items on the “To Do” list. Work has taken place on the Ladies’ Toilet on the Course, window cleaning and fireproofing the roof of the boiler house takes place over the coming days.
• Bar prices will increase by 5% from 1st July. The new prices still remain very competitive.
• We have found that a monthly meeting of Council is not enough to cover all the business of the club during this busy time of year. Therefore, we are planning some extra (shorter) council meetings between the scheduled monthly meetings. The next extra meeting takes place next Wednesday, 3rd July and will deal with finance and marketing. The next full meeting of the council is scheduled to take place at the end of July.

Finally, on a personal note, I’d like to thank everyone for their support and good wishes for my President’s Days over the last few days. It was great to meet you all and we had a great atmosphere at the joint presentation on Tuesday night, well done to Sheila Browne and Paul O’Leary on their wins and to all the other prize winners and participants, it’s great to be able to take part. See you all again next year for more of the same!
Yours, in spórt agus cairdeas,

Siobhán Cartúir
