TPGC Newsletter
Dear Members
I think that everyone had a fantastic time on Captain’s Day and I reproduce below a snippet of an email I received from one of our members that sums up the day so perfectly, there’s nothing more I could add:

“What a great day Captains Day was. The course was in great shape and the on-course refreshments most welcome.

For me the most significant and best part of the day was the presentation, barbeque, band and disco in the evening. All too often in the past, Captains Day presentations have been very poorly attended. The 2018 Captains Day presentation was a refreshing change. Not only was there a fantastic turn out, the age group of the attendees probably covered everyone from 8 to 80 and a few younger children too. It was particularly good to see so many younger members there along with their families, all having a great time, along with the older members. This is exactly how it should be and shows that our golf club is thriving and is a place for all to enjoy with their families. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come and marks the beginning of a new era at TPGC. If this is the case we need not worry about the golf club struggling with a declining and aging membership, which can be a problem for many golf clubs.”

The wonderful support carried on with the Captain’s Away Day on Friday with over 50 members travelling to Cavendish GC. One or two made their own way to the Peak District but most travelled on the “team” coach which made for an entertaining journey. The day consisted of coffee and bacon roll on arrival followed by a challenging 18 holes. Though not a long course by any means, placement from tee to fairway was the key if you stood any chance of finding the right side of the pin. Cavendish’s defence line of small precise McKenzie greens didn’t fail, producing some wicked putts, with one or two players seeing their efforts leave the green. Finally, it was back to TPGC for evening food & presentation of prizes.

It has been a challenging time for the greens team and we have received a very good response to last week’s newsletter, with members suggesting that we invite the membership to contribute to a whip round for the green staff to show our appreciation of them. Should you wish to contribute we will have a collection tin behind the bar from Monday 30th July – 6th August.

All being well contractors should be on site this week to repair part of the on the main club house, there will be some scaffolding going up around our patio.

Thanks Jon
