Portsalon hat-trick hope denied in Donegal League decider Our Donegal League side came up agonisingly short in their bid to win a hat-trick of Donegal League crowns on Sunday afternoon as Ballybofey & Stranorlar Golf Club New were crowned champions for 2026. Portsalon held a 4-1 advantage from the first leg but the home side reversed that outcome on their own patch and managed to overturn the holes deficit to take the trophy. Some excellent golf was played by both teams on a testing afternoon with gusting winds following heavy rains in the morning. Portsalon's winning combination on the day was the anchor match of Shane McGlade and Ronan McClafferty. Team captain Cathal Canning can certainly remain proud of his group. They have contested four of the last eight final in the Donegal League, winning two and losing two more on holes only. Commiserations to the team on this occasion. B&C Captain Iggy Larkin presented pennant and photos afterwards to an emotional team captain, Tony Carr. The Paddy Carr Donegal League remains one of the most treasured competitions in our local game, bringing together players of all abilities and forging friendships and golfing rivalries around the county, and it certainly was fitting that Paddy's son was the recipient of the cup on this occasion. Congrats to Tony and his squad on their victory. Captain's Outing Dr Enda Cullen's held a Captain's Away Day in Ballyliffin on Saturday, with more 100 players taking to the Old Course, while the Inishowen club sent a delegation to Portsalon for an exchange day. Conditions were ideal for golf and the Portsalon visitors enjoyed the course and a fine post-golf meal in Ballyliffin. The winner on the day was Kieran Doherty with a score of 38 points.
