There was some excellent scoring in the Men’s Daily Mail Foursomes Qualifier at today's Hawkstone Park Golf Club, with S. Peate and B. Evans taking top spot with an outstanding score of 61.0. The top 8 pairs on the day go through a seeded draw with the final to be played by the end of February 2027. The winning pair produced a superb round to finish a clear 12 shots ahead of the second-placed pairing, G. Busby and T. Hammett, who returned 73.0. D. Mynard and P. Green secured third place with 74.0, while T. O’Flaherty and I. Roberts and S. Mackness and S. Saunders both finished on 75.0. Further notable scores included K. Atkinson and B. Parker on 77, G. The Daily Mail Foursomes is one of the UK’s long-running national amateur golf competitions. Clubs in England, Scotland and Wales can enter a men’s and women’s pair, with clubs normally holding their own qualifying competition to select the pair that will represent them. The competition then becomes a national knockout, with matches played over 18 holes of foursomes match play. In foursomes, partners play alternate shots, with handicap allowance based on 50% of the difference between the teams’ combined Course Handicaps. The scale of the competition is considerable, with the organisers reporting more than 110,000 players taking part in club qualifying competitions each year, and more than 3,000 teams involved in the first-round draws. Later stages culminating in this year's 2026 Finals event at Precise Resort and Golf El Rompido in Spain in November.
