The final of the Russ Noble Trophy was played this morning on the Hawkstone Course, with John Hampson and Simon Halliwell going head-to-head for the trophy. An early start in misty conditions saw the players share the opening couple of holes before John edged ahead to go 1 up. Simon responded impressively, winning three holes in succession before the first halved hole of the match at the 7th. Simon reached the turn 2 up, and continued to build his advantage on the back nine with a superb birdie on the 10th. After halving the 11th, Simon strengthened his position further with steady pars at the 12th and 13th to reach dormie. John faced further misfortune at the 14th, finding the hazard, and with the match slipping away, the two players shook hands by the green. Simon Halliwell won the final 6 & 4.
