The Week 40 – Monday 10th August Dear Members, August is here, and it seems the weather is sticking around with another warm week coming up. The temperature is pretty consistent, climbing to the early/mid 30s starting Wednesday. But there’s a glimmer of hope with a chance of some rain over the weekend. Catering Corner Emma will be here today, Wednesday and Thursday, and Thomas will be covering the rest of the week, so catering will be available all week long. Competition Corner Monday 10th – 16 players from Lexden Golf Society will be joining us, and there are no tee restrictions. They should fit in nicely around the members. Please make them feel welcome if you spot them on the course or in the clubhouse. Tuesday 11th – Ladies 18-hole Stableford, Sir John Wood Course, no general play restrictions. Wednesday 12th – No Scheduled event Thursday 13th – Men’s match against Aldeburgh. 1st and 4th Tee restrictions 0900, no general play restrictions. Friday 14th– Mixed 9-hole Stableford. No general play restrictions Saturday 15th – Ladies Cayzer Cup. No General play restrictions Sunday 16th – Ladies Weston Match v Gorleston, Tee restrictions will be in place, more details to follow. Rules Corner Last Week’s Question On the tee, after teeing up the ball, a player breaks off some grass and presses down the area behind the ball with their foot. What is the ruling? a. 1 stroke penalty b. 2 stroke penalty c. No penalty Last Week’s Answer The correct answer is C, no penalty. In the teeing area, a player can do things to make the playing conditions better, like making a mark with their club or foot, or moving, bending or breaking grass and other natural things growing there. (Rule 6.2b) This week’s question: On the sixth hole, during a stroke play event, a player plays from a greenside bunker and the ball goes over the access road. After finishing the hole, the player returns to the bunker to practice the shot they played. What is the ruling? a. No penalty b. One shot penalty c. Two shot penalty Members Book: The members information book has been updated. It includes all the expectations and club rules that members should follow. It also has important information about joining the club, handicaps, the 1895 club and lots more. You can find it in the Howdidido app, at the bottom of the screen, by pressing club, documents and scrolling until you find the members information book. When you have a moment, please take a look—it might help you remember something or explain something you didn’t know. Good News Story: On Tuesday 11th August, Anna Fairhead qualified to play at the Grove! Re: Unleash Your Drive comp we played earlier this year at Flempton, the top 45 scores in the country made it to the final at the Grove. The top three from there will get a spot in the Pro-Am at Wentworth. It’s organised by The Golf Foundation and hosted by Nick Docherty. Well done, Anna! Fingers crossed you have a great day.
