Steele Cup
Karl Conway finds top form to lead Steele Cup
109 players took part in today's Steele Cup First Round in difficult windy conditions where only 5 players beat par. Karl Conway found his form today scoring a 3 under par net 68 (74-6) to take a one shot lead into tomorrow's final round. Karl had 3 birdies in his round at holes 6, 8 and 10 but he will be kicking himself at his triple bogey 8 at the 9th which otherwise was a really solid score. Close behind on 69 are Ian Stewart (74-5) and David Stuart (82-13). Ian had two birdies at 4 and 6 in a steady round whilst David also birdied 6 in a consistent performance. Another couple of players who achieved below par rounds of 70 and firmly in the mix tomorrow are Jim Stewart (77-7) and Alistair Milne (83-13). Ten players sit on their heels at par and one over, so it's all to play for in tomorrow's final round. Karl wins £44 in the sweep in top spot, with Ian taking second place on back nine countback winning £26.40 and David picks up £17.60 in third place. Four players had "2's" at the 15th hole Kevin Brunton, John Cassie, Andrew McLaren and Allan Fleming. Kevin, John and Andrew pick up £25 each in the sweep - Allan did not participate. Well done all. Good luck to all players tomorrow it looks like it's going to be a close one ! Just a note regarding complaints of slow play today - please ensure in all competitions that your group keeps up with the game in front. Please do not tee off before your allotted tee time and "call forward" at the 3rd and 16th holes to groups behind. Much appreciated M&H
