Preferred lies will be in place from 23 July 2026 until further notice owing to the extremely dry conditions. This is intended to recognise that there are some bare patches of fairway and to safeguard the course from damage. This has been in play for non-qualifying rounds but is now extended to all rounds that will contribute to your handicap, until weather and ground conditions make it unnecessary. Until further notice this means: You can use a preferred lie if the ball rests in a "general area cut to fairway height or less" (usually the fairway or the green apron). The Relief Area: Place the ball within 6 inches of the original spot—no closer to the hole. It must stay in the general area. Marking: You do not technically have to mark your ball before lifting it, but it is highly recommended to ensure you place it in the correct relief area. Putting it into play: Once the ball is placed and you remove your marker, it is in play and cannot be picked up or moved again without penalty. I will issue an update when the situation changes.
