Lady Presidents Day
Anne Amos wins with an impressive 40 Points
21 ladies participated in Vonnie Thornton’s first Lady Presidents day in almost perfect conditions for Gorleston apart from the fact it was still very warm and the breeze was an additional asset. The first group out, who were 100 minutes early due to childcare arrangements unfortunately were not aware of the nearest the pin on the 4th as the Lady President was still in her Australian timezone when she arrived to declare what holes were the nearest the pin holes. Fortunately none of the ladies hit the green on the 4th in the first group and after intervention from a Mr. D Trump to have it replayed he was kindly told to (fill in your own response here). Overall, the scoring was quite good with a 40pts and three 39pts filling the top four positions and many others with good scores around the “playing to handicap” range. I’ve got to mention the ever-cheery Jayne Biss at this point, aiding her to enter her scores I think she finished with a respectable 27 points but that included 5 or 6 blobs on the bounce but in the spirit of the day Jane was still as bubbly as ever and has now worn out the “played but did not score” button, to be honest I’ve scored less points not having a blob. On offer today were prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd with a nearest the pin on the 4th and a nearest the pin in two on the 10th. With this being my first real involvement with a prestige ladies competition I thought it was lovely to see some higher handicappers taking the prizes, Maureen Dark taking NTP on the 4th and relatively newcomer to the game and club Marisa Booth getting nearest in two on the 10th, well done ladies. Onto the main prize winners and it was a very close affair as mentioned earlier, in 4th place on countback was Marisa Booth with 39pts and squeezing into 3rd place, also with 39pts was Maggie Hart, Vera Woolnough with 39pts and 22pts on back nine secured 2nd place and winner on the day with an impressive 40pts was Anne Amos which also included a ‘blob’, I’m thinking you were still wearing the Mexican Sombrero from early hours Monday morning Anne. It was lovely to see Vonnie and Howard, wishing them both good health and although I wasn’t there I have it on good authority that the afternoon tea was very nice, so thanks as always to Simon and the crew and to Julie behind the bar who definitely had a rush on with the Ladies and the Barclay Boys coming in at the same time. Thanks to Mike Amos for his scorecard distribution and collection and his ability not to miss a free drink from the Barclay Boys, something he forgot to teach me 50 years ago.
