Club Championship Weekend
Chris Duffy wins the Men's Scratch Cup
Firstly a thanks to the weather, sunny, dry, cloudy and oh yes a Westerly wind to tease everyone on the rapidly receding 5th fairway, anyone who posted an 8+ on this hole you have my sympathy unless, like myself you didn’t put one or maybe two or three over the cliff from the Tee. Whilst on the Thanks, shout out to Matthew who I think has missed Kings Lynn Club Championship but apparently, he was beaten by a 12 year old girl the other week after shooting a Nett 62 and she returned a 59, I’m guessing the wind doesn’t blow in Lynn and it’s done him a favour. Still on the accolades thanks to Past Captain Howard Kellett for 10 hours of starting duties, John Hopwood for the scoreboard in the foyer, Mike Amos for impersonating Carol Vorderman without the enhancing surgery, recording scores on the scoreboard, the homeless person who allocated herself as chief pointer outer on day 2 to let players who’d never met before know who they were playing with before making their way to 1st Tee box. As always, my favourite people the Bar and Catering staff and there were some lads who hang out in a Portacabin near the 12th that cut a bit of grass here and there and done their ironing first thing, Danny and the Team thank you. They also raked every bunker to pristine conditions but yet we had numerous people mentioning the footprints and general conditions of the bunkers, guests and visitors are constantly blamed for this but it seems our own members cannot rake bunkers correctly or at all, please everyone, leave the bunkers as you would expect to find them. Finally onto the Golf, no play off this year so everything went off on time and the presentation went ahead at 6.30pm as advised, big shout out here goes to Gary Connor who missed his good lady wife, Tonia, receiving the Jaipur Cup for best Nett score on day 2 with a Nett 7 under, his excuse was he was washing and drying his hair, VAR are still trying to verify this but footage of Gary with hair but it’s in black and white. Well done Tonia. Junior Club Champion handicap is Harry Page with an impressive Nett 64, with Lucas Brooks and Henry Stevenson finishing 2nd & 3rd. Junior Scratch winner was Luca Devine-Rushbroke Ladies Handicap winner was Louise Bernasconi with Tonia Connor 2nd and Amanda Hood 3rd Mens seniors winner was Eddie Reid, ironically a Scotsman posting two rounds of ’66 and I can’t for the life of me think what happened in 1966. Mens handicap winner was Eddie Reid, ironically a Scotsman posting two rounds of ’66 and I can’t for the life of me think what happened in 1966 (we all love a copy and paste except the EDP would’ve managed a spelling mistake in this sentence) Ladies Scratch was won by Marie Norman aka the chief pointer outer as mentioned earlier. The Mens Scratch was won by Chris Duffy with a 2 round total of 147, with Brendan Gough and Daniel Crosby finishing 2nd & 3rd with 149. Final thanks to Duncan and Maggie for their continued hard work with the Juniors and what a bunch they’re producing, Max Leuty and Riley Finch 3rd and 4th in the 36 hole adult handicap competition. Congratulations to England reaching the Quarter Finals of the World Cup Stuart Pearce Chairman of Competitions
