Ian Pettie Memorial Day
On a beautiful summer’s day, around 25 teams took part in the Waltz competition in memory of Ian Pettie, our past Captain and President.
The course, as always, was in excellent condition, and the first three teams were awarded prizes generously donated by the Pettie family. Our thanks also go to the Pro Shop for supporting us on the day.
After some emotional speeches, Chris unveiled the bench donated by the family. Thanks also to Wendy Johnson who, despite nursing an injury picked up whilst playing in the competition, dressed the Pettie bench.
The all-you-can-eat and drink brunch then took hold, and a good time was had by all, with excellent music and service from Steen and all the staff, who kept the booze and food flowing.
The draw was then made by Chris for the Win Your Membership sweep, and the following three members were picked out:
A year’s membership - Richard Perry (No. 11)
£200 in Pro Shop voucher/towards membership - Stephen Murrell (No. 32)
£100 in Pro Shop voucher/towards membership - John Smithies (No. 143)
There were two small additional prizes, thanks to the Pro Shop, of a sleeve of balls. These went to Chris Johnson (No. 71) and Pat Ashman (No. 148).
Congratulations to the winners. Please speak to the office about your prizes.
As Captain, I would like to say thanks to the many members who bought a ticket. We will raise about £600 towards my charity, Parkinson’s UK.
To be honest, the rest of the day was a bit of a blur, but we did raise £750 in the auction for golf at St George’s Hill (thanks Matthew and the SST boys), and around £600 in the raffle.
All money raised from the Memorial Day will be split between mine and Chris’s charities.
Thank you all for your support.

“Once again, can I pass our thanks on to the Members, Staff and Friends of Bognor Regis Golf Club who have supported Dad and our entire family over the years. We are always made to feel so welcome at the club and to now have somewhere to sit and think about Dad is hugely comforting.”
