We had a terrific start to this week with our volunteers joining with our Staff to make a big effort to clear out some of the debris by the 16th fairway. There will be another session on the 13th of April to finish this work. Thanks to everyone who helped.
We are very pleased we have a great entry for our King’s Cup Competition this Friday.
All of our greens will be open tomorrow and we have opened the grass tees on all tees except for the par 3's for this special event.
You may note some tee positions may be a little farther from the permanent markers than usual, as we continue to protect the teeing areas before qualifying courses return. The rest of the weekend will be played from our Winter Green and Blue Course Tees.
Fairway mats will still be in play until next Tuesday 7th April, when we will go back to playing without the mats. That will give you 11 days to get used to grass play again before our qualifying competitions are scheduled to start after our Captains’ Drive Ins on the 16th of April.
Course work
We are very pleased to have been back on our ride on mowers again after a long period when their use was not practical due to wet ground.
All of our grass tees, approaches and fairways have been cut, together with our greens and their surrounds. We have also been mowing the practice area to get it back to a more playable condition.
Following the extended period of drought last year, (which led to far too many of you reaching the 17th green in one shot!) we are being more conservative with our mowing heights in the general area this Spring.
This should ensure we develop more resilient surfaces over time
We will continue to use the rope systems to guide you away from areas which are still very vulnerable, namely the 1st, 4th, 8th, 13th and 15th holes.
Please do not take your trolleys onto our approaches and greens’ surrounds. Please “park them” before you get to these areas.
Our trial of robot mowers is nearing its end and we have to report we had signal issues which limited the effectiveness of the trial. We will take this issue up with our suppliers and report back to you in due course.
That’s it for now, have a marvellous first weekend of our new golfing year.
The Greens Team.
