Golf Update
Summary
Frinton Links Golf Club men’s captain Rob Morgan held the Captain’s Dinner and Golf event on Saturday. While the rest of the country seemed to be awash with rain, Frinton enjoyed a pleasantly dry day, to the relief of the 26 fourball better ball teams. The winners of the SMR 1900 Trophy were former captains Luc Gagne and Harry Sanderson with 43 points. One point behind were the runners-up Charles and Henry Wood, beating Jamie Redden and Simon Rouse on countback. Peter Webster and Roger Deeble finished fourth on 41 points.

A simultaneous competition was the best two scores from four team event, and Gagne and Sanderson found themselves also the winners of this, in partnership with Ross McAuley and Jack Brooker, winning on countback with 84 points. The unlucky runners-up, missing out by one point on the back nine, were Murray Northover, David Partridge, Chris Vine, and next year’s senior’s captain Graham Waltham. In third place on 80 points were Liam Wilson, Max Chapman, Jamie Redden, and Simon Rouse.

The golf was followed by an Agincourt themed delightful dinner enjoyed by 78 members and guests, and the evening was rounded off with a true or false quiz to raise funds for the captain’s charities, followed by an entertaining speech by Frinton Links member Dingle Clark.

The monthly Friday Stableford was closely fought, with three players finishing with 35 points. Leading the pack on countback was Malcolm Boucher, just ahead of Steve Paul and Peter Murphy. David Partridge and Murray Northover both scored 34.

The juniors competed in round eight of the Junior President’s Cup, and the winner was junior captain Hadley Stringer with 39 points, a remarkable total given his handicap of 2, meaning he went round one under par. Luca Ferrero and Dan Keary were runners-up with 36.
