Green Keeper Update - October 2025
Dear Members,
October continues to be a busy month for our team as we balance ongoing maintenance with our essential autumn programme work.
1. Storm Amy Response
Our scheduled greens maintenance programme, which was due to commence on 6th October, had to be postponed due to Storm Amy's arrival. The high winds required significant clean-up work across the course, and I'm pleased to report that most of this has now been completed. We still have some high branches requiring attention, which Gordon, our tree surgeon, will address for us in due course.
2. Autumn Maintenance Programme
Our hollow-tining programme will now take place on Monday, 20th October. Temporary greens will be in play during this essential maintenance work, and we will endeavour to have all greens back in play by Friday.
In addition to hollow-tining the greens, we will also be tining and sanding tees and approaches. Weather permitting, we plan to verti-drain the fairways as well, although this may need to be scheduled for later as our verti-drain is currently booked for maintenance before we can tackle this work.
3. Recent Course Maintenance
All greens have been verti-drained again and have received their final liquid feed of the season. Following the completion of hollow-tining, greens will receive a granular fertiliser application to support recovery and prepare them for winter.
4. Ongoing Operations
Despite the mild weather conditions we've been experiencing, we remain in full cutting mode across fairways, greens, tees, and approaches. Leaf clearing has also become a significant part of our daily operations as we move deeper into autumn.
5. Looking Forward
Look out for more updates throughout the winter months as we continue our comprehensive maintenance programme to ensure the course remains in excellent condition.
I hope you have enjoyed your golf this season and continue to do so through the autumn months.
Our goal remains making Wishaw Golf Club the finest course in Lanarkshire.
