The course was in magnificent condition for the 188 players who took part in this year’s Seniors Open. The weather was very kind with little wind and this was reflected in the scores with a 65 winning the handicap prize and a 69 taking first place in the scratch competition.

There was a good showing from the home players and it was one of our own that took first place in the handicap. Ian Wilson shot a superb 65 (83-18) to pip Kenny Fegan (Gogarburn) (74-9) on countback. Ian had 4 net birdies in the front nine going out in 33. He went one better with 5 net birdies on the back nine, coming home in 32 finishing with net birdies on 17 and 18. Kenny started well and had 5 net birdies in his outward half of 31 and continued that form with 2 net birdies and a net eagle, coming home in 34. A bogey on the 18th proving costly.

Two Harburn players finished a shot behind the winner, Neil Hogarth (70-4) and Terry McCormack (76-10) with 66’s. Neil was out in 32 and back in 34 with no fewer than 8 gross birdies in his round. His only real blemish was a triple bogey on 17. Terry had equal halves of 33 which included 6 net birdies. A further 3 players finished on 67.

Gary Corrigan shot a 2 under par 69 to win the Scratch prize finishing a shot ahead of Neil Hogarth. Gary and Neil had an amazing total of 15 birdies between them. Gary got off to a slow start with bogeys at the first two holes. However, after 5 birdies in the next 7 holes he was out in 34, 2 under the card. A further 2 birdies helped him back in 35, level par.

Neil was also out in 2 under par and was 4 under after birdies at 10 and 11 before just falling short after his triple bogey at 17. In third place was Karl Conway with a 73. Karl was out in 37, got back to level par after an eagle at 11 but an unfortunate double bogey at 15 proved costly.

Six players had birdies at the 15th to win vouchers.
