Irvine Links Final
A repeat of last years finalists
The final of the 2025 Irvine Links will take place tonight.
In a repeat of last years final, defending champion and top seed John Shanks will take on his great friend and 2nd seed Darren Mallinson.
Both semi finals last night went the distance and more so in the first match.
Darren Mallinson & Greg Cathie went to extra holes after being all square with a half on the 18th. The match swung back and forth throughout the round in the glorious sunshine. Darren closed out the match on the 19th green after what was a hard fought contest.
John Shanks at one point held a 4 hole advantage over Daniel Forbes but the latter clicked into gear and started to peg back his opponents lead. The game was being decided on the greens with both players trading blows with long putts.
John held a one hole advantage on the 17th tee and with two excellent par's, the game headed down the final hole.
With Daniel needing a birdie to take the match to extra holes, his putt just slipped by and John progressed to the final.
The final will tee off at 5pm and will be refereed by Greg Cathie.
A huge thank you again goes to Greg for mobilising the enhanced tournament week and for his hard work drumming up interest within Ayrshire as we try to energise this event once more.
