What's been happening
Dear member

After the excitement of last Saturday, it's been a quiet week really!
The stop start rain this week has really helped with some growth and from an aesthetics perspective, turned the fairways a nice shade of green.

As communicated for the past two years, we embarked on a three to four year programme of over-seeding the greens with bent grass. If the weather is kind this week or next then we will be be over-seeding once more. The knock on effect for members is that the greens will not be cut for four to five days in order to let the seed germinate. A necessary evil I'm afraid.

At this weeks course committee, we discussed Autumn / Winter improvements. I'm hesitant to over commit our small greens team, if the weather goes against them there's only so much they can achieve. However, our plans based on a decent winter will be to re-build / improve the 13th tee, in the same fashion as the 14th, which it has to be said is now the best tee box on the golf course. At the same time as building the new tee on 13, irrigation will be added to the approach on hole 12 as well as refurbishment of the two front bunkers.
If time and budget allows we will be improving some pathways on the course, we desperately need to tarmac the slopes on holes 1 and 11 because every time we have heavy rain the paths wash away, which means two days of restorative work for men and machines. We await a price on this work.
We would like to experiment with astro-turf on our flatter pathways, if budget allows we will try and astro-turf the 7th path from tee to green and around to the 8th tee, if this is successful and members like it, we will continue to upgrade all pathways in this fashion.
We are very conscious that several fences around tees, greens and course boundaries are falling down, rotten and unsightly. We will endeavour to start replacing these fences.
