What's been happening
Dear member
Another hot and busy week at the golf club. We have had exciting weekends with lots of competition golf which fortunately has been met with sunshine. Only a couple of days in the last few weeks which has made it very tough for the green staff to maintain the course in the condition that they have done. We have had endless amounts of compliments about the greens as of recently so well done to them.
Whilst the rain is currently welcomed on most occasions to help make the course a little greener than it's current state, unfortunately tomorrow (Saturday 19th) is the exception but the weather forecast looks as though we will receive A lot.
Andy would like to ask that everyone participating tomorrow could bring a bottle or two for the wheelbarrow prize for the raffle. The format is 4 ball best two scores count. When you sign in please chose a joker hole where your score will be doubled, and on hole 18, all 4 scores count. There will be spot prizes out on the course as well as a car to be won with a hole in one on 10!
SOUTH EAST SIX MAN
The club would just like to say thank you to all the members for your understanding as we closed the course to host the South East Six Man Championship meaning we could not allow play on Friday afternoon and all day Saturday last week. We hope that those of you that would have usually played managed to still get a game of golf at one of our reciprocal clubs.
Also a huge thank you to the members who volunteered to help ball spot on the day, it was extremely hot so even standing in the sun for a while was a challenge and you really assisted in speeding up the play to ensure the day went as smoothly as possible so thank you. After a long 36 holes it was Kent that secured the victory with a very impressive accumulated score of level par.
INTER CLUB REPORT
On Saturday 28th June The Millbrook Inter Club Team visited Overstone Park Golf
Club for the 2nd leg of the competition.
A very hot and windy day made conditions tricky, but the team played with grit
and determination to produce 2nd place and the home team taking 1st.
Each Team member went out with similar handicapped players in a fourball
with the top player from the fourball winning 4 points for their team, 2nd 3
points etc.
Top Millbrook player was Dave McKears and 2nd place was taken by Paul
Masters.
Overall standings so far are: -
1st Overstone Park 24
2nd The Millbrook 22
3rd Whittlebury Park 19
4th Pavenham Park 15
Everything to play for with the next leg at Whittlebury Park later this month and
the final leg at Millbrook in September.
Thanks to all the Millbrook players who have contributed so far and I hope we
continue have a good results at Whittlebury.
CLUB MATCH REPORT
?Today was another tough day at the office lots of points scored but victories were scarce
Myself and scratch played reasonable golf but were at the end of a 5-4 thrashing
It wasn’t much better for simon and Darren with a 4 and 3 loss
John and Mary scored well again but were soundly beaten 3 and 2
Steve and Sean bought some sanity to proceedings with a solid 2 and 1 victory
Paul and George were outplayed by some canny golf going down 6 and 5
The final rubber saw Harmit and Owen securing a 1 up victory after several hours on the course !
A 4-2 defeat in hot conditions and greens that have seen better days
We look forward to our next match in August.
