The scratch section lost by 11 points to 1 point. Our losing players were Andy Hood, Tom Lee, Phil Chadwick, Paul McGrath and Steve Smart. Our 1 point was gained by Jacob Brown. I must say that all the lads played very well but it is very difficult in this section when they play against lads who play on their home course off the following handicaps +4,+3, +3, 2, 3 and 4 and you all compete at 0.
In the handicap section, we lost by 8 points to 4 points. Our winners were Marc Symington and Will Bellerby. Our losing players were Daniel Spence, Darren Hurst, Nic Winstanley and Dave McGreal.
The final result was Barnard Castle 19 points Billingham 5 points. Well done to everyone of you, it was tough match on a course few people had played, on probably the poorest greens I have seen in a lot of years of any golf course.
Once again, Neil and myself would like to thank all the players, as we say every week you can only try your best as long as you enjoy. Now a massive thank you to all the supporters who this week were magnificent in more ways than one by travelling so far away. Let me start with Captain and Vice-Captain, Glenn Brocklesby and Albert Spence BEM. As I mentioned previously, many of our players had not played at Barnard Castle before; Glenn caddied for Will Bellerby, Neil Kerr caddied for Steve Smart then assisted Nic Winstanley. Terry Conlon caddied for Dave McGreal, Dave McNeill caddied for Phil Chadwick, Colin Spence caddied for Daniel Spence. Thank you to our other supporters who wandered around the course giving encouragement to all the players, these included Jack Hurst, Terry Buckley, Craig Ewen, Graeme Speight and not forgetting my mate, Stewart Openshaw who never misses home or away matches. The players really appreciate all of your support. This fixture was the half-way point of the league season and how quick this comes around, so let’s make the big push up that league table that you all deserve.
Our next fixture is at home against Castle Eden on Wednesday 25 June 2025. I am looking forward to seeing as many of our supporters come along to watch the team and some great golf! Let’s be fair it’s got to be better than watching Emmerdale, Coronation Street or East Enders and if the Ladies want to come along and support us, it’s got to be better than Love Island on TV ha ha!!!
With Thanks
Tony The Tiger and Neil Kerr
