Gents Championship Results
Another Championship week is now over
The final of the Gents Club Championship drew to a close this afternoon with John Shanks claiming his 10th title with a 9&7 win over George J Robertson.

An emotional John paid tribute to a great friend and opponent in George, who although was unable to bring his A-game today, still ensured that he had to fight hard for his victory.

With John now equaling the ten titles of Alex Gourlay, he now has his sights firmly set on the target of 14, set by Jackie Cannon.

In the Handicap Championship for the Victory Cup, we were treated to a close and exciting contest between David McGuire and Tom Craven, which certainly ramped up towards the end.

With Tom in the lead for parts of the game, he was 2-up with a putt on the 16th to take victory. The match went down the 17th, and with Tom playing the wrong ball from an unplayable drop, David reduced the deficit.

On 18 both players were on the green in two. David made a long birdie putt with Tom’s attempt just slipping past to take it to sudden death.

The match headed to the 19th and after David found trouble in the left green side bunker, Tom was able to close out the match and secure the title.

A huge thank you to all of this week’s players, caddies, referees and spectators for coming out and showing their support.

Commiserations to George and David and congratulations to John & Tom.
