In what must have been the most challenging weather for a long while in the Gents club championship, the first-round ties took place this evening.
One player referred to the playing conditions as a “war of attrition” tonight and for the spectators, it certainly had that feeling too.

John Shanks commenced the defence of his title with a 3&1 win over Ewan Black.
Toy Loy’s match went to the 18th hole before prevailing over Darren Mallinson 1 Up.
Jack Thomas secured a 2&1 victory over Stuart Fairgrieve.
George J Roberston eased home with a 5&4 win over debutant Alastair Green.
2nd year member Bruce McAulay was victorious over Greg Cathie winning 3&1.
Craig Adams defeated Mark Anderson on the 17th green winning 2&1.
Jim Mackison and Gareth Lamb had a great battle with Jim winning on the 18th green 1-Up.
The last match on the course saw Mason Chisholm come back from 1 down playing the 18th to secure victory over Alan Barbour on the 19th.

The quarter finals will be played on Wednesday evening from 16:30 with the following matches (seedings in brackets): -
