“Tolly Boys secure Quarter Final place”
Outstanding performances all round
A tough Westerly breeze made conditions quite tough on Sunday as Gorleston entertained Felixstowe Ferry in the 2nd round of the Tolly Cobbold Cup. The importance of having a 13 man squad was utilised as 5 were unavailable for various reasons which left us with the bare minimum 8 players and the unfortunate scenario of having the Tolly Captain as a last resort reserve. The threat of rain in the morning didn’t really materialise with the odd spot here and there and Gorleston came in for lunch with a healthy 8 holes up lead thanks to the pairings of Andy Witthames/James Bowman and Kev Carter/Jake Bailey both winning their matches 4 up.
With no serious injuries apparent the same 8 were able to head out for the afternoon round and after 9 holes Gorleston had extended their lead by a small margin but then the 2nd and 3rd groups of Stew Finch/Ray Pope and Kenzie Lodge/Luca Devine-Rushbrooke turned on the afterburners and by the 15th hole were 6 and 7 up respectfully and the Felixstowe boys were left demoralised to the point they didn’t wish to carry on.
The Quarter Final will see Gorleston travel to either Thorpeness or Seckford on the 22nd June.
