Rules for Ground Under Repair (GUR)
News
Dear Members,

It has been brought to my attention on numerous occasions that members seem to be taking incorrect action when taking a free drop in GUR. See Rule 16 - Abnormal Course Conditions

GUR - Play Prohibited

If the area is marked with the above sign then relief must be taken. This involves dropping the ball one clubs length at the nearest point of full relief no nearer the hole. It seems that the GUR on the 5th fairway seems to be causing confusion. There are no longer any drop zones and there hasn't been for several weeks. Several members have observed members taking the incorrect relief. Nearest point of relief can be in 3 places as you play the hole. To the right of the GUR by the 4th tee, behind the GUR in the rough and to the left of the GUR on the fairway. Too many members when going in this particular GUR are taking relief to the left of the GUR and dropping it in the perfect position on the fairway yet their nearest point of relief would have been to the right or behind the GUR.

Incorrect relief will result in penalty shots/disqualification.

GUR

Where an area is marked GUR you have 2 options. Play it as you lie or take relief as the lie is poor hence it being GUR. Again its the nearest point of relief then 1 clubs length no nearer the hole.

Remember it doesn't just have to be the ball that is in GUR. If it affects your stance for your normal shot position or you are standing in GUR relief is still available.

Can I also remind members that the rules of golf are what keeps the integrity of our beautiful game. If you are in any doubt about a ruling and your playing partners are also unsure then please play a separate ball and mark 2 scores for that hole. On returning to the pro shop to enter your score please ask what the ruling should be. Hopefully they will be able to provide you with the answer and you can enter your score correctly. There may be occasions when the ruling needs to be referred to the Golf Committee. By ensuring this happens it keeps all members from infringing the rules.

Thanks
