Tabby wins County Championship
Links players dominate in Semi Finals
Tabby Brain won the Ladies County Championships at Links Golf Club over the weekend. The weekend began with 27 players from the County playing in a strokeplay qualifier for 8 matchplay spots. Tabby won the qualifier for the Allen Newport Salver with a gross 74. Three other Links ladies, Marcella Tuttle 77, Jackie Ewing 78 and Sarah Greenall 81 all qualified for the matchplay stage.
Tabby played Tammini Hurst from Ramsey in the quarter final and won a very tense match on the 22nd hole. Marcella, Jackie and Sarah all won their matches creating an all Links semi finals on Sunday morning. This is the first time one club has had all four players in the semi finals. Tabby played Sarah Greenall and after a tight match was victorious on the 18th hole. Marcella beat Jackie Ewing 5&4 to set up an afternoon final between Tabby and Marcella.
In the final, Tabby established an early two up lead after three holes but Marcella fought back with three consecutive winning holes to take a 1 up lead. Tabby won the 7th and 9th holes to return to a 1 up lead before Marcella won the 10th hole to square the match. Despite exchanging wins on the 14th and 15th holes, the match remained tied after the 18th hole. The match extended up the 1st hole with Tabby hitting two excellent shots on the front edge of the green and two putting for a birdie four and victory. Congratulations to both players on a hard fought match. Tabby completed a marathon 77 holes over the weekend. This is her second County Championship win, her first being 10 years ago at St. Ives.
