Violet Brown Competition
Friday 19th April 2024
14 ladies played in the Violet Brown Competition over the Old Course on Friday 19 April, in windy conditions. All medal winners over the previous 12 months were eligible to play.

Violet Brown was a member of The St Rule Club for 45 years and was Golf Captain in 1938. She bequeathed £100 to the Club to be divided between the golf section and the Club. The golf section bought the Violet Brown trophy and the winners' board for the golf room. The Club purchased double glazing for the drawing room windows.
The Violet Brown trophy is in fact a tea caddy made in the days when tea was very expensive - today's equivalent of £3/lb would be £600.

The winner on Friday afternoon was Jackie Thompson with a nett 79, in second place was Karen de Korte with a nett 80, and in third place was Anja Clark with a nett 81.

The winners of the mixed foursomes competition, winning the Joan McKerrow Salver on Sunday 14 April, were Nina and Walter Alexander. They were unable to attend the supper following the golf hence Nina was presented with the salver on Friday evening.
The photo shows Jackie being presented with her trophy by Penny Newman-Carter.
