Golf Season Postponed!!
Dear Member,
Please find below the most up to date information from the Handicap & Competitions Committee:
Captains’ Drive-In – Sunday April 7th 2024
Congratulations to Peter Johnson and Alan Blumenow who won this competition with an amazing 42 points. 2nd were Steve Morris and Mark Johnson with 39pts beating Tremayne Darnell and Steve Deegan into 3rd place on a card play-off. Peter Johnson & Alan Blumenow will now be invited to represent the Club in the Lancashire Foursomes Net competition at Bolton Old Links on August 14th 2024 and Tremayne Darnell and Steve Deegan will be invited to represent the Club in the Lancashire Foursomes Gross competition at the same venue on the same day. We wish both pairs the best of luck.
Knockouts
Due to the poor condition of the course, we have decided to further put back the play-by dates of The Tarsh, The Sol Bennett, The Dunham and The Seniors knockout competitions. All of the revised play-by dates are clearly shown on V1.
The Hesketh Bowl and Mixed Foursomes play-by dates are unchanged.
If you need to play your match before the course has fully recovered, please abide by the following rules:
1. Play should be off the plates denoting the full course. 2. Mats may only be used on fairways.
3. A ball coming to rest in the rough may be lifted, cleaned, and replaced within six inches of where it originally lay. In all other cases the rules of golf apply e.g. plugged ball, casual water etc.
Please ensure that your results are entered into V1 as soon as your match is concluded. We will not generally allow extensions and any result not entered by the play-by date will result in the disqualification of those concerned. Please remember that if a date for playing cannot be agreed, the match WILL be played at 4pm on the play-by date.
Postponement of All Major Club Competitions
With the poor course conditions and the continuing need for mats and preferred lies, The Committee has decided that it not appropriate or fair to play any Club Major Competition at this time. Weather and course permitting, the first Club Major will now be played on 12th May 2024. A full amended schedule will be released nearer the time. In the meantime, we are putting on the following three Sunday competitions which will be mixed and open to all:
Sunday April 14th 4BBB Stableford.
Sunday April 21st 2 player team Texas Scramble
Sunday April 28th Four Person Team Waltz
The Mens’ Ajex Medal will be played on May 5th with the first Major being played on May 12th.
Tuesday Order of Merit Competitions
The start of the Tuesday Order of Merit competitions has been postponed until Tuesday April 30th 2024.
The first two weeks will be OOM Stableford 1 & OOM Stableford 2. The following two weeks will be OOM Medal 1 and OOM Medal 2. Following the first four weeks, the OOM competitions will then revert to their usual format of being OOM Medal and OOM Stableford on alternate weeks.
Our thanks must go to the Green Staff who have agreed to move Maintenance Week should the competition season need to be extended. All we need now is a period of dry weather so that we can get the season underway.
