Badgers V East Herts
Badgers
The Badgers' Home Match on March 18th, 2024, against East Herts saw a strong turnout with eight teams of four, all ready to tackle the challenge ahead.
Despite recent rains, our home course was in pristine condition, thanks to the diligent efforts of our greenkeepers. The course was vastly improved from last week's sanding, a fact not lost on our guests, who praised its quality and excellent drainage.
Facing off against East Herts for our second match of the season presented a formidable challenge. Although we were giving up shots, our team was ready to give it their all. Unfortunately, we fell short, with East Herts emerging victorious with a score of 5.5 - 2.5.
The halfway house provided much-needed sustenance, provided by our new young ladies there, with bacon and sausage rolls proving especially popular among the players.
Lunch was a delightful affair, featuring lasagna, salad, and sticky toffee pudding with ice cream. The kitchen staff deserved commendation for their culinary skills, as everyone at my table thoroughly enjoyed their meal.
Special congratulations to Bill McGarry and Mick Jones from East Herts for winning nearest the pin on the 3rd hole, each receiving a pack of golf balls.
A warm welcome is extended to new Badgers member, Colin Callander, whom I had the pleasure of playing with for the first time. Colin's contributions as co-author of the WGC centenary book are noteworthy, and I encourage anyone who hasn't read it to do so.
Looking ahead, our next match is against Verulam on Thursday, March 21st. Let's continue to strive for excellence on the course and camaraderie off it.
