Irish Day - results ceremony!
Results sheet sabotage?
This year’s annual club against the Irish match took place yesterday, with the club seeking revenge on last year’s defeat

Sunday dawned very dank and dreary; probably less so for the English, having had a great win at Twickenham the day before, but more so for others in the club, with defeats for both Ireland and Scotland and Wales probably heading for a wooden spoon decider, against Italy, next weekend!

Onwards and upwards, however, with bacon rolls and coffee cheering the masses before the 8.45 shotgun put the 68 players into battle. Those of you quick at maths will work out that was 17 fourball games in the match - so 17 points up for grabs (we will come on to that later!)

A big hand to Les and his team for getting the course in a playable condition and whilst it was wet we didn’t see the constant rain forecast for the whole of the day.

Post battle the banter in the locker rooms seemed to be pointing to an Irish victory but the actual result went a closely guarded secret in a sealed envelope

Lunch, served in the Cube Room, was a very nice Irish stew with bacon & cabbage, gravy and mash followed by desert, more drinks and anticipating chatter as we awaited the result.

Captain JC here finally holding the results after Irish captain Gary Honeyford had wrestled with the envelope for five minutes. Suffice to say it was not quite as slick as the flick and open one may see at the Oscars, but did have the room more that a little amused

As the newsroom is in possession of said results document, the result is in favour of the Irish with 9 games won, 4 lost and 4 halved. So 11-6 then. Anyways up - many hearty congratulations to the Irish.

There then followed an afternoon of Guinness and some traditional folk music in the front bar

Whilst all this was going on, the pro shop was manned by our latest addition to the team, George Hoarton. Welcome to the Club, George
