Update re Driving Range from Booth
Driving Range Update
Dear Vicars Cross Golf Club Members,

We are now approaching the completion of the New Driving Range & Short Game Area. We are entering the winter period, which presents us with more challenging weather conditions.

Due to the predominantly cold and wet conditions, the surface of the completed sub-soils will become completely saturated. This makes it impossible to manoeuvre a bulldozer without it sinking. The ground needs to be able to withstand the weight of the bulldozer and be in a solid enough state to be moved and shaped.

When moisture is added to the soil, the material reaches its optimum moisture content and density (the best possible state for compaction, movement, and shaping). If the moisture level increases beyond this point, the density drops quickly, substantially reducing the compaction quality.

Wet and saturated material will not remain in the required position, meaning that while it's wet, we can't achieve the design to the necessary high standard.

This means that work will now be paused until we resume in spring 2024, as the weather begins to improve, allowing for the creation of the final shapes.
Seeding will then be undertaken, but again, we require very specific weather conditions to achieve successful growth.

Thank you,
Rob Bristow - Head of Booth Golf & Leisure
