Bedfordshire County Matchplay
An all-Dunstable Final
The Semi-Finals and Final of the County Matchplay were held at Luton Hoo on Sunday the 15th October. The top 16 competitors of the County Championships qualify for this prestigious KO event.
In the Semi-Finals Chris Spooner of Dunstable Downs, beat Ed Stephenson of Leighton Buzzard and Rob Sutton of Dunstable Downs, beat Scott Armitage of John O Gaunt. This left an all-Dunstable Final between Chris and Rob.
The Final was played in the afternoon, it was all square after the front nine, but Chris birdied the 11th, received a concession on the 12th, and then birdied the 14th to go three up with four to play. However, after a half on the par three 15th, Rob won the next three holes to force a sudden death play-off; the first hole was halved with a long putt by Chris, but following a wayward drive from Rob, Chris seized the opportunity to win the trophy that Rob held from 2022.
Well done Chris & Rob – another brilliant display and representation of Dunstable Downs at County level.
