Robertson Memorial completes 2023 trophies
The final of the Robertson Memorial was played today between Paul Rowe & Ron Lay, up against defending champions, Ian Stidworthy & Mark Jevons. This final had been postponed from Saturday, as Ron was already in the Stephenson foursome final that day.
Paul & Ron found themselves three down with four to play but won on 15 and 17 to take it down the last. Ian’s par on 18 secured victory for the defending champs.

Having had a week of quite unsettled weather, we were blessed with the conditions for finals day, on Saturday, and equally blessed with the condition of the course. The course was, understandably, quite wet, with some standing water in places, so an early decision for preferred lies was made. In addition, our furry residents had been having a bit of a forage in areas overnight, so relief from scrapes was reiterated to players and refs.
Play started at 8.45 am, with the Stephenson Foursomes, a Ryder Cup-esq match, featuring Ron Lay & Mike Stewart against Graham Juber & Simon McGregor-Wood.
Graham & Simon were one up after eighteen and went through the turn of the afternoon round three up. Ron and Mike kept this in check for a few holes, before losing a couple on the bounce, and going out 5 and 4
In the Davis Dorling mixed greensomes competition, defending champions Kara Catt and Bill Boucher were taken down the last and pipped by Caroline and Philip Glynn
Phillipa Lovell won the Moore Cup beating Heidi Patton on the 16th
David Hardman won the Stephenson Bowl with a stableford score of 37, from Ed Franklin, on 36, and Vice Captain, Mike Brown, also on 36.
The summer knockout, Un-Named Trophy, was played between the GM, John Maguire, and Member for House, Mike Pearson, with John handing 22 shots across the committee room table to Mike. The game went down the 19th before John secured the title.
In the Vets Singles, John Miles was rapidly up against Member for Golf, Grahame Falconer, and pretty much held that lead eventually triumphing 4 and 3.
Dave (Loved that Dessert) Butcher & David Henderson won the Vets Foursomes, on the 18th, from runners-up, Gary Lowery & Mark Carpenter.
In previously played competition finals, Angel Xue beat Diana Colville in the ladies Summer Knockout and Julia Bailey & Kara Catt beat Kate Lyons & Jan Oliver, in ladies Summer Cup.
The Stephenson Singles saw defending champion, Simon Kimble, giving a considerable number of shots to an in form, James Johnson, who capitalised and led by three at the halfway point. Simon had turned things around by hole 27 and eventually sealed victory 3 and 2
Simon, very modest in victory, thanked all for making the day special before announcing the drinks were on him! Well, to be precise, on him and James as they had agreed to split a bar bill whatever the result. Well done gents - hats off to you!
