Plant rolls back the years
Paul Plant nearly wins the Sussex Mid-age championship
Paul Plant was denied a play-off opportunity as he settled for 2nd place via a card countback. Arguably, no County Championship should be lost in this way, with 3 players tied on +1, a play-off should be used.

Crowborough Beacon GC hosted the event and was typically firm and bouncy with some pins placement that even the best players in the game would have found tough to get the ball close. This resulted in some high scoring with no players matching par. The greens were the best many had seen at Crowborough for a long time, but the trick was getting on them.

The mid-age championship is for players 35+ , but it was the current County veterans Champion, Paul Plant that rolled back the year's and nearly stole the prize. Paul hit a magnificent 7 iron into the 456 yard 18th hole to six feet for a final hole birdie to tie, only to learn later that he had lost on countback.

The club was represented by 4 players, Martin Galway, Doug Park and Steve Graham, Graham was the closest of the rest, needing a birdie at the last to win, he hit a wayward teeshot, requiring two shots to get out the heather and his chance had gone with a closing double-bogey.

Well played Paul and in the eyes of many, a joint champion.
