Slow Play the Bane of Golfing Life
Slow play is very often talked about in most club houses. Even the PGA Tour is set to implement new pace-of-play rules early next year in an effort to speed up rounds,
Here are some pointers to avoid slow play:-
1. Always keep up with the group in front of you, not just ahead of the group behind you.
2. If the group in front of you are a clear hole ahead of you and the group behind you catches up, stand aside and let the group behind go through
3. Get everyone to keep an eye on your ball when you play
4. When in doubt hit a provisional, or in social play if you cannot find your ball, play another from the fairway close to where you think the ball was and simply add two shots to your score.
5. You have 3 minutes to search for a ball
6. Ready golf, be ready to take your shot before the previous player has taken their shot
7. Think about what club to use before you get to your ball
8. On Par 3 holes, consider once all players in your group have played onto the green if the next group are waiting on the tee box, invite them to play their tee shots before your group putt out.
9. When it is a player's turn to play, it is recommended that he or she make the stroke in no more than 40 seconds
10. If you run out of shots, e.g. on a par 5 you have taken 10 shots, on a par 4 you have taken 9 shots and on a par 3 you have taken 8 shots or youcannot score any stableford points, pick up your ball, unless the competition rules state otherwise.
11. Make sure you put your golf bag, trolley or buggy between the green and the next tee to make a quicker exit to the next tee
12. Study your line of putt when others are making their putts.
13. When on the putting green be ready to putt your ball as soon as the previous person has putted
14. As soon as you all have finished putting move on quickly to the next tee box
15. Write your scores down at the next tee box, not just as you finish on the green
