Stephenson Auction and Draw
Nothing says “start of the season like” the Stephenson Supper!
This was originally planned to be posted yesterday, but with it lashing down with rain, and the course closed, seemed somewhat bad timing.
Friday evening saw the annual Stephenson Supper. For those new to the club, this is the event where all entrants to the Stephenson Singles are up for auction, either in single lots, for the more favoured, or combined lots for the less so. Those bidding are most usually in syndicates.

From all the money raised, a generous slice goes to the Captain’s, and Ladies Captain’s, charities - the remainder is paid out as prize money to those who “own” a player making it to the last sixteen, and beyond, of the knockout itself. Competitors will have got through four rounds to make it to the round of sixteen which will be known by 9th June
There were 140 entries, which were divided into 47 lots. The full list of runners and riders and amount bid will be available in the locker room.
Supper itself was a very tasty steak and kidney pie, washed down with a few glasses of something to lubricate the bidding paddle.
For those keen to bag a favourite, there were eleven single lots which comprised: Finn Charlesworth, Matthew Dickinson, Ally Dunn, Grant Elner, Phillip Glynn, Simon Kimble, John Maguire, Paul Moran, David Phillpot, Ben Priest & Paul Robinson.
Simon took the biggest bid of the night and is going for an unprecedented, three on the bounce, hat-trick. The ladies were also involved and Ladies Captain, Enid Hughes, along with Member for Membership, Kara Catt, were seen deep in tactical discussion in the front bar prior. Some well planned, shrewd bidding there - but will it pay off (or out - even)
